The Department of Literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position in Creative Writing-Poetry. The campus is seeking a poet with a broad range of interests. Teaching assignments will include creative writing workshops and courses in literature. The appointee will be expected to teach large undergraduate lecture courses as well as small advanced seminars, participate in running the reading series and work actively with undergraduates, graduate students and faculty to invigorate the poetry program. This position carries a five-course-equivalency workload, which normally means teaching four courses over three quarters and carrying out other academic and service responsibilities. The appointee must be able to work with students and faculty from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their writing, research, teaching, and/or service.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications, experience, and level of appointment.
Minimum qualifications: M.F.A. in poetry and/or a significant record of publication in poetry required; creative talent of a high order as testified to in letters of recommendation and as manifest in published and/or unpublished writing required; demonstrated record of successful college level teaching required. Ph.D. desirable. Work in other genres desirable. Ability to work in a language other than English desirable (e.g., translation, knowledge of and ability to teach a non-anglophone literature, etc.).
