La Baldi Residency

The La Baldi Residency, sponsored by Cultivate, offers two-week and one-month residencies from April through October to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators, in Montegiovi, Italy. Residents stay in private lodging with a fully equipped kitchen and outside sitting area. Individual writers and collaborative teams may apply. The cost of the residency is €600 (approximately $620) for two weeks or €1,050 (approximately $1,085) for one month, for one artist; €945 (approximately $977) for two weeks or €1,575 (approximately $1,628) for one month, for a collaborative duo; and €1,290 (approximately $1,333) for two weeks or €2,100 (approximately $2,170) for one month, for a collaborative team of three. Two month-long subsidized residencies are awarded annually and cover the cost of the program; transportation and daily living expenses are not included. Using only the online application system, writers interested in being considered for a subsidized residency, as well as general applicants, submitted up to 10 pages of poetry, no more than 20 pages of prose, or 10 to 20 pages of translation, including both the original and translated work; a brief biography; a résumé or curriculum vitae; a list of publications; and an artist statement by February 1. Applications were accepted until May 1 for any general applicant residency slots that are still open after the first deadline and selection. There was no application fee.
