Author's Bio

Nazarii Nazarov, PhD, was born in 1990 in a small village in Ukrainian steppe. Before the invasion of Ukraine he lived in Kyiv and Irping, Ukraine, where he worked as a translator, a linguist, and a researcher. At the beginning of the war he was in Paris where he resides currently and continues his creative and research activities. He writes his poems in Ukrainian and English. His Ukrainian poems were selected for representative national anthologies, whereas his English poems and translations have appeared in Eratio, Eunoia, Literary Shanghai, The Tiger Moth Review, IHRAF Publishes. In collaboration with Norwegian poet Erling Kittelsen, he published an anthology of Ukrainian folk poetry in Norwegian translation (under a pen name Nazarii Nazar). His mother tongue is Ukrainian, whereas English, French, and Greek are languages for poetry and research.

2021 – City of Poetry award for English poems; 2011 – winner (I place) in the international competition in translation from French, organized by embassy of Canada in Ukraine; 2009 – special prize of the jury in the competition in literary translation ‘Metaphora’ (Ukraine) for translations of Modern Greek poetry (Μιλτός Σαχτούρης); 2009 – winner (I place) in the National Ukrainian competition in translation from Modern Greek language, organized by the Andriy Biletsky Centre of Hellenic studies ad Greek culture; 2007 – winner (I place) in National literary competition ‘Pryvitannya zhyttia’ (Welcoming of Life); 2006; 2007 – was awarded personal scholarship of the President of Ukraine
