Author's Bio

Phillis Levin’s fifth collection, Mr. Memory & Other Poems, was published by Penguin Books in March 2016. She is the author of four other volumes, Temples and Fields (1988), The Afterimage (1995), Mercury (2001), and May Day (2008), and is the editor of The Penguin Book of the Sonnet (2001). Widely anthologized, her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Grand Street, Poetry, The Nation, Paris Review, Ploughshares, Plume, Kenyon Review, Southwest Review, Yale Review, PN Review, AGNI, New Republic, Poetry London, The Poetry Review, and The Best American Poetry. She has given readings at numerous venues in the USA and abroad. Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Levin holds degrees from Sarah Lawrence College and the Johns Hopkins University. She has taught at the University of Maryland, The Unterberg Poetry Center, in the MFA programs at New York University and The New School, and currently is Professor of English and Poet-in-Residence at Hofstra University. -Photo Credit: Sigrid Estrada
