Editorial Focus

Protean Magazine is a nonprofit leftist publication that produces an annual print magazine and publishes online content year-round. Each print edition contains approximately 100 full-color, ad-free pages, with vivid illustrations and writing that address the most pressing issues of our time. Their site showcases new pieces of freely available work—essays, fiction, and poetry—on a weekly basis. Protean’s mission is to promote high-quality criticism, journalism, literature, and art for the political left.

Tips From the Editor

Please carefully read our submission guidelines prior to submission. We encourage all submitters to familiarize themselves with content we have published to get a better sense of the sort of work we like. Our submission periods for print magazines, which are considered separately from our online submissions, are announced via our social media.
