Jae Kim of St. Louis won the 2022 Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize for his translation from the Korean of Lee Young-ju’s poetry collection Cold Candies (Black Ocean). He received $6,000. Annelise Finegan, Soeun Seo, and Emily Jungmin Yoon judged. Italian Prose in Translation Award
Anna Chiafele of Auburn, Alabama, and Lisa Pike of Windsor, Canada, both won the 2022 Italian Prose in Translation Award for their translation from the Italian of Silvana La Spina’s work of fiction Penelope (Bordighera Press). They shared a prize of $5,000. Nerina Cocchi, Douglas Grant Heise, and Barbara Ofosu-Somuah judged. Spain-USA Foundation Translation Award
Mara Faye Lethem of Barcelona won the 2022 Spain-USA Foundation Translation Award for her translation from the Catalan of Max Besora’s novel The Adventures and Misadventures of the Extraordinary and Admirable Joan Orpí, Conquistador and Founder of New Catalonia (Open Letter Books). She received $5,000. Peter Bush, Kevin Gerry Dunn, and Amaia Gabantxo judged. The annual award is given for a book of fiction or nonfiction whose author is of Spanish nationality and is translated from Spanish, Basque, Galician, or Catalan into English and published in the previous year. D. M. Black of London won the 2022 National Translation Award in Poetry for his translation from the Italian of Dante Alighieri’s work of poetry Purgatorio (New York Review Books Classics). Martin Aitken of Sorø, Denmark, won the 2022 National Translation Award in Prose for his translation from the Norwegian of Karl Ove Knausgaard’s novel The Morning Star (Penguin Press). John C. Zacharis First Book Award
Lara Egger of Boston won the 32nd annual John C. Zacharis First Book Award for her poetry collection, How to Love Everyone and Almost Get Away With It (University of Massachusetts Press, 2021). She received $1,500. John Skoyles, Ploughshares poetry editor, judged. The annual award is given in alternating years for a first poetry collection or first book of fiction by a writer whose work has been published in Ploughshares. The next deadline is June 30.

Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowships
Five poets each received a $25,800 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship from the Poetry Foundation. The 2022 fellows are Tarik Dobbs of Dearborn, Michigan; Diamond Forde of Atlanta; Tariq Luthun of Gaza, Detroit, and Dearborn, Michigan; Troy Osaki of Seattle; and Alan Pelaez Lopez of La Costa Chica de Oaxaca, México. The applications were reviewed by a combination of external readers and judges. The annual awards are given to poets between the ages of 21 and 31 to support their continued study and writing of poetry. (See Deadlines.)
