Author's Bio

Juanita Torrence-Thompson was nominated Woman of the Year (2009) by the American Biographical Institute Board for International Research. The American Association of University Women named her a Woman Who Makes a Difference and who is Dedicated to Diversity.

Ms. Torrence-Thompson's 8th book of poetry is The Sccret Life of Scrambled Eggs (Torderwarz Publishubg, 2013). Talking With Stanley Kunitz (Torderwarz, 2012) , was a finalist in Many Mountains Moving contest. Breath-Life poems were nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She is the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Möbius, The Poetry Magazine, a “best pick” for six years by Small Press Review. Her 2007 book, New York & African Tapestries, was a “best pick” by Small Press Review. Her poetry has been translated into 15 languages and appears in 12 anthologies and dozens of U.S. magazines and abroad. She writes a poetry column for New York and Massachusetts newspapers – print and online. She was the featured poet at National Federaiion of State Poetry Societies convention at the San Antonio Hilton and at the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Queens Borough Bridge in New York.

She has been a headliner reading in South Africa, Singapore, Switzerland, Canada and the U.S. Torrence-Thompson is a former adjunct Professor at the College of New Rochelle, conducts poetry workshops, produces and hosts poetry salons. Ms. Torrence-Thompson has an M.A. from Fordham University and a B.S. from SUNY, Empire State College. She was honored for outstanding achievements by SUNY, ESC and received Meritorious Award from the National Urban League.
