Author's Bio

Kaya Oakes' nonfiction book, Slanted and Enchanted: The Evolution of Indie Culture, was published by Henry Holt in 2009. Her memoir, Radical Reinvention, is forthcoming from Counterpoint Press in July, 2012. Her collection of poetry, Telegraph, received the Transcontinental Poetry Prize from Pavement Saw Press. Her poems have appeared in Volt, Conduit, Tarpaulin Sky, Coconut, MiPoesias, Parthenon West Review and numerous other journals. She has twice been a Pushcart nominee and has been the recipient of grants and awards from the Academy of American Poets, the Mellon Foundation, and the Bay Area Writing Project. Born and raised in Oakland, California, she teaches writing at the University of California, Berkeley.
