Author's Bio

I was born and grew up in The Bronx, and have lived most of his life in New York City.  I write short stories.

Much of my writing is devoted to contemporary New York City life, with its diverse residents – poor, well-off, Black, white, immigrants, the educated and the unlearned – and their difficulties and occasional triumphs.  My stories are generally in a realist vein, but they may occasionally veer into the surreal.  I am very attentive to rhythm and alliterativeness, and strive for musicality in my sentences.  And I like to sprinkle my work with comedy.

My stories have appeared in the Columbia Journal (online, Dec. 19, 2023) (www.columbiajournal.org/articles/the-han...); the Beloit Fiction Journal, Volume 36; The Greensboro Review, No. 60 (Summer 1996); The Quarterly, Volumes 6, 8, and 11; Lettre International, No. 6 (in German translation); and the anthology, American Fiction, Volume 16 (New Rivers Press).
