EUGENE RICHIE is the author of the poetry collections Moiré (Intuflo Editions, 1989), Island Light (Painted Leaf, 1998), Only Here, Between (Gnosis Press 2023), and—with Rosanne Wasserman—Place du Carousel (Zilvinas and Daiva Publications, 2001) and Psyche and Amor (Factory Hollow, 2009). With Edith Grossman, he co-translated Jaime Manrique’s Scarecrow (Groundwater, 1990) and My Night with Federico García Lorca (Groundwater, 1996 / University of Wisconsin Press, 2003), a Lambda Literary Award finalist. He has also translated and published stories by Matilde Daviu and poems by Peruvian novelist and poet Isaac Goldemberg in American literary magazines and anthologies. With Alex Muino, he translated and published “Amma’s Hug,” a play by Madrid playwright Yolanda Dorado, in Women Staging Women: Two Spanish Plays, vol. 41. New York: Estreno [Premier] Contemporary Spanish Plays Series, 2018. His poems and translations have been set to music by Russian composer Anton Rovner and American composers Tom Cipullo and Nathan Jones. He has published reviews, introductions, and articles on translation and the poets James Schuyler, John Ashbery, Pierre Martory, Michael McClure, Charles North, Ron Padgett, Paul Violi, Gerrit Henry, Thomas Elias Weatherly, Ed Barrett, Rosanne Wasserman, and Forrest Gander. With Wasserman, he has edited John Ashbery’s translations from the French—including Pierre Martory’s The Landscapist, a London Poetry Book Society Recommended Translation and a National Book Critics Circle Award poetry finalist; and Ashbery’s Collected French Translations (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, and Carcanet Press, 2014).
