More than one hundred writers have signed a statement to express solidarity “with all those targeted by hate during COVID-19.” Noting the particular rise in anti-Asian violence, the signatories invite the public to join PEN America and the Asian American Writers Workshop for a day of action dubbed United Against Hate: A Day of Solidarity. Kicking off at noon today, the two organizations are hosting a series of virtual events to condemn hate and to celebrate Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander voices.
Lambda Literary has announced that Jericho Brown is the recipient of its 2020 Trustee Award. The annual prize is given “to an extraordinary individual who has broken new ground in the field of LGBTQ literature and culture.” The foundation also announced Jane Wagner as the recipient of its 2020 Visionary Award, and Brian Lam as the recipient of its 2020 Publishing Professional Award.
The Amazon Literary Partnership has announced its 2020 grant recipients, disbursing more than $1 million in funding between sixty-six organizations. Since its founding in 2009, the Amazon Literary Partnership has awarded over $13 million to literary groups across the country. (Business Wire)
In addition to its direct grants, the Amazon Literary Partnership cosponsors a poetry fund with the Academy of American Poets and a literary magazine fund with the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses, both of which announced their 2020 grant recipients today.
